For those
who dig an original rock-n-roll sound ...The Beat Beggars are for you! This site includes numerous live video and audio recordings for you to explore! With a dozen songs written by singer/guitarist Mike Joseph, the Beat
Beggars play a mix of rowdy, rhythmic, rock-n-roll, along with a growing repertoire of songs by the legendary J.J. Cale. (15
songs so far) Although the laid back Cale wrote rock classics like "After Midnight" and "They
Call Me the Breeze", the Beat Beggars prefer to "beggarize" and infuse energy into less popular songs from
his thirty-five year career such as Mama Don't, Cajun Moon, No Time, Ride me High, Living here Too, 13 Days, Bringin it
Back, Kiss this World Goodbye, and many more.
The Beat Beggars are blues influenced, but they definitely aren't mired in twelve-bar blues. They
don't want to be the band that sounds the same after the third song. High
energy, rockin, originals like "DeMystify" and "Your Silence" include funky twists and turns throughout.
"Keep On Slidin' has a driving rock-a-billy feel. "You're So Unkind" has a Zevon-esque sound, and "Wrung
My heart Out Like a Dishcloth" has a texas twist. Mix in a little John Hiatt, Junior Wells, early Dire Straits, Bob Marley,
and many unique JJ Cale renditions... you get a kickin rock-n-roll show! Dan Tortora plays lead and rhythm guitars, as well as provides vocals for many of the band's songs.
Mike Joseph also plays rhythm/lead guitar and sings. His brother, Jeff Joseph, plays bass, and Mark Steinmetz powers
the band on drums. Rehearsing and performing
for over seven years, the Beat Beggars hail from the Rochester, New York area. They are a tight, fun, four-piece boogie,
rockin' band with plenty of character.
Have a look, have a listen!
